No I haven’t taken leave of my senses and become a fashion blogger – I am so not cool enough for that! (And, don’t own enough hats or oversized spectacles) Besides, my taste is a little on the peculiar side and probably not one I should be encouraging. I blame my mother. She always let me choose my own clothes and even bought me special pens to decorate my t-shirts and canvas shoes, I mean what mum does that!? (The kind who regularly goes commando or lets the grand-kids play with drills or occasionally dances on tables) You see, I view my own two girls as an extension of my own wardrobe and another excuse to buy more clothes and style-up another 2 extra people! Am I mean? I like to think of it as mentoring.
Actually, their style is almost as crazy as mine, and it makes me proud. I will be the old woman in the nursing home with a thousand crazy hats and they will be the 2 eccentric mis-matching daughters that visit me! So why am I writing this post? Well, because someone I know challenged me to find as many ways as I could to style a sarong, and I can’t let a challenge go. But it got me thinking : my husband often jokes about packing for a weekend away and only needing a spare pair of pants and toothbrush, but what about me? Could I limit my wardrobe that much? Well, I’m seeing the sarong as my solution. So, along with a couple of summer essentials I am dying to get my hands on (have a sneak peak below) I have come up with 3 ways to style a sarong so that in future I can pack light. Actually, I was more thinking we could have one bag for my sarong and his underpants, and one bag for my shoes – that’s fair isn’t it??
My Dream Summer 2017 Fashion Essentials
River Island – Beige slip on Espadrille platform – £24. They’d match everything!
River Island – Green cami top – £15. This is my favourite colour at the moment so I must have this top! I bought last years version of this in 4 colours and they’re still as good as new, a great key piece that can be dressed up or down.
River Island – Wide Leg Trousers – I actually already own these!
Top Shop – Playsuit – £35
Warehouse – Hanky Dress – £42
How To Wear A Sarong 3 Different Ways – It’s Easy!!

So, what do you think? Is it a winner, the sarong? Part of the excitement of holidays for me is choosing my wardrobe but we regularly use sites like Holiday Gems to book last minute deals so at least I know I’ve got 3 ready made outfits if I don’t have any time to shop! (Incidentally you can follow Holiday Gems on Facebook if you’re on the lookout for some last minute bargains)
If you’re considering booking a last minute holiday then have a read of my other post Last Minute Dot Com – Does It Pay Off for some tips on how you can save money when you book last minute.
Thanks for stopping by and let me know what you think of my choices, it was fun writing about clothes for once!….
I love the look of that Hanky dress, perfect for the hot weather! And I think the halter style is my favourite out of the 3 sarong options! x #KCACOLS
I love the cami top from River island, I have the same top in black and in cream, I’m tempted to buy this one now too!! #kcacols
I opened your post the other day on my phone and never had a chance to go back and comment until today. What a great idea, I love Beige slip in green. I would not mind having one of those for myself.
Loving all the outfit options! Such cute dresses and sarong is awesome1
The sarong is great for any country that isn’t Wales lol. But I love those trainers. #kcacols
Yeah, I don’t think they make them waterproof 😉
I loved the green top! Wanna go and try it on in River Island 🙂
They have them in a ton of colours too, I have a few!
Well you look like a fashion blogger to me! This is a fab post with some lovely suggestions. I have tried a sarong in the past but always got into a bit of a tangle. Now I know what to do. Thanks so much for joining us at #TweensTeensBeyond
It took us a bit of practise but I especially like the halter neck effect.
Aw your post made me want to go shopping ❤️ Thanks for linking to #KCACOLS
Great post! I love that green top!!!! I am a wide leg linen trouser wearer – have something like 49 pairs (hope my husband DOESNT read this!!!) and that green top would go nicely with my 22 white pairs (has to be 23 degrees plus before the white ones come out!) I love a good sarong me!! As we say ”You can’t go wrong with a sarong!!”

?? well those white ones are about to get some use then in Oz!! I love that green too, it’s my favourite new colour. I’m just trying to figure out which room I can get away with painting it!
Maybe you should switch to fashion blogging, Alex? 😉
Oh I’m not a fashion blogger either but oh my word I do love it! Love those espadrilles and love that jumpsuit! You chose well! #TweensTeensBeyond
I don’t understand people who don’t like clothes. There, I said it.
Hi Alex, I am taking myself off this morning with the purpose of spending some time shopping for clothes for the summer that is yet to arrive so this is very well timed! In particular i want some cropped trousers, they are so versatile and love the RI ones you have here. Sarongs however are not my thing. I never have been able to get the hang of them even when I was a svelte teenager myself so am not going to revisit at 50 – I prefer a lovely big kaftan over my costume! Thanks for joining us at #TweensTeensBeyond
Oo have a nice day shopping!!!!
Loving the new blog look – it has changed hasn’t it? Back to say thanks for joining us at #tweensteensbeyond
Had some great reads!! No, always had this look – perhaps the theme is more suited to fashion!?

You had me going, I thought you’d been signed up by Vogue. It could happen! You know it’s taken me the first half (almost) of my life to realise that I take too much on holiday. I actually find it more stressful having too much. I’ve only really started wearing a sarong in recent years. And that’s not a sheet one. I am in awe of sarong aficionados like yourself! If I could only get it right, my kit could fit in a plastic folder (and a case for shoes!!!)
Ha! Obviously a case for shoes. I wonder if women still wear nice shoes on nudist resorts!? 😉
Cute choices! I wish I had the legs to pull those outfits off.
#KCACOLS
Ooh love the look of that green RI vest- will have to investigate (and do lots of tricep dips!!)
Ha! It’s squats this end for me. But your running will be keeping your legs trim!!
Your good at this fashion blogging business! Nice choices! Plus, you have an amazing body for a sarong ;).
??? stop it – you’ll make my sarong come undone!
